Three things I did this week that the algorithm might not have shown you…
Firstly, I made a comic! This is a thing I do sometimes. Some of you may even be here from the olden days when I did it a lot. I’m still in a lengthy process of understanding why I don’t do it more, but I suspect it has a lot to do with a certain 500-page memoir and burnout. Anyway, sometimes I still make comics, and when I do they happen all of a sudden as though they just fall out of my head sideways on to the paper. Like this one.
Second, I released a new video! This one is a gentle sharing of painting, knitting and spinning while relaxing in my mum and dad’s garden a little while ago.
Third, I have now finished my covid cardigan! The algorithm definitely won’t have shown you this as I haven’t shared pictures of it yet, but I cast off this project last week and I’m thrilled with the finished piece. I’ll show it off in detail in a video sometime soon, but the pattern if you’re curious is Dijon Forêt by Carol Sunday. I knitted it with two yarns from John Arbon Textiles held together: Yarnadelic and Alpaca Supreme.
There are, of course, many more things which happened this week including some very early Dartmoor walks with Jack to avoid the heat (I mean like 4.30am early). There are many benefits to rising early before sunrise though, including watching beautiful sunrises over the moor.
That’s all for this edition. Thank you for being here and supporting my creative work in whichever ways you choose to do so (yes, reading this is part of that - thank you!)
Dear Katie, thank you for your newsletter, which has lifted my spirits this morning! I am at Stage 7 with my haircut, and I'm contemplating whether I can make it to Stage 8 before I fold. The COVID sweater is beautiful, and Jack and the moors make my heart sing. BB
Just love the Cardigan you have inspired me to buy the pattern and make one of my own. Your parents garden is just lovely and what beautiful sun rises!
Hmmm...what an interesting place this is! I've never been on Substack before. Thank you for your drop of sunshine in my Inbox! Your comics are so cute and fun, and the best part is they really hit the nail on the head of the experience! That cardigan is so gorgeous and so you. Having watched you put your wardrobe together over the years, I am in awe of your dialed-in sense of your style - at least it looks that way from where I'm standing. And so each new piece really fits in with its newfound siblings, and your outfits come together so lovely. I know the process has not always gone smoothly (which is the entirely normal experience!), but look at what you have accomplished. And you continue to be an inspiration to my own making. Cheers!
Thank you Katie and Jack, it was really fun to enjoy the energy of your wonderful creativity in this newsletter. Such a beautiful knit suitably photographed on the stunning moors. Teresa 🧶🪲🐾
This is a wonderful cardigan, Katie. I might just knit it too :). I'm also a lover of getting up early, but the problem is, that I don't go to bed early enough, because I'm equally fond of summer evenings. It seems, that I must set priorities!
At the moment, I like to sit in the garden in the evenings and write and draw in my journal.
Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and projects, Katie. It's a delight to get news from you.
Thanks for all you do and especially for sharing. Seeing that lovely sunset through Jack's eyes is such a treat. Like so many here, I do believe that sweater is now navigating toward my queue too. Love following you, but being a patron and substack is a superior way to do so.

The sweater is gawgous! Thank your parents for the garden tour. So lovely!
